"Budo cannot be practiced as a form of entertainment or distraction. It is a serious undertaking, but not a sad one - far from it. You cannot approach it tentatively with your fingertips.....or with superficial layers of the heart. It would be better never to become involved , but if you do it is essential to carry on to the end, until ones being is regenerated to the point of being made man again - real man. As soon as your naked feet have entered a Dojo you have entered forever. If you give up, if you waiver, you risk finding yourself weaker than before........."

Dear John:
Please accept...heartfelt thank you for the self defense workshop you conducted at the Arts Center. It was terrific ! One of the participants had taken the jail's self defense class but didn't find it very useful. She said yours was much better-- easier to understand and, most important, easier to apply. Your tips and suggestions were pratical and easy to remember. Our having the chance to practice what you preached was also a big plus-- we always learn better by doing than by watching. We collected $61 in donations to Your Safe Haven, which I passed to Jeannee Mallow at the last board meeting.
Bless you for donating so much time and energy to making us feel safer---.
